Automatic Watch Cufflinks
Automatic watch cufflinks, unlike mechanical movements, have an element of automation to their operation. All watches require a form of kinetic (or movement) energy to enable their parts to work, by continuously ticking and keeping time. Mechanical watches receive their energy by being wound by hand. However, what makes automatic watches so sought after is that they do not need winding.
We hand craft automatic watch cufflinks made from automatic movements (aka mechanisms). These movements have a rotor (Oscillating Rotor) which usually covers approximately half the face of the movement. As the wearer’s wrist moves, the rotor swings freely with their motion. This motion is converted via the swinging of the rotor into energy for the watch to work and tick. Therefore, if the watch is not worn for a few days, it stops keeping time.
All of our Automatic Watch Cufflinks are sold with freely moving rotors, so when you move, the rotors on your cufflinks will move too; a truly unique and fascinating feature. George Fox Cufflinks will never harm a working watch to produce cufflinks and so our Automatic Watch Cufflinks are made from non-working movements.
